This is a long-standing local plumbing maintenance company built on experience, problem-solving, and turning up when people need help.
Founded by David Conroy in 1989, The Lone Drainer and Pronto started with one truck, a stack of drain cleaning gear, and the belief that if you did honest work properly, people would remember you.
Turns out they did.
Today, much of our work still comes from repeat customers, word of mouth and long-term relationships built over decades throughout Paddington and Woollahra, Coogee, Randwick, Bronte, Bondi, Clovelly, Maroubra and the surrounding Eastern Suburbs.

Over the years, we’ve seen just about everything:

And after several decades crawling under homes, clearing blocked drains, diagnosing hidden leaks and repairing old infrastructure across Sydney’s east, we’ve built a deep understanding of the plumbing problems local properties commonly face.
Drain Clearing Specialists
Blocked drains have always been a major part of what we do.
David became widely known as “The Lone Drainer” because drain clearing and sewer diagnostics became a specialised focus long before most plumbing companies invested heavily in the equipment and training required to do it properly.
We’ve spent years working with:

- high-pressure water drain cleaning equipment
- sewer repair systems
- preventative maintenance programs
- Vaporooter root control treatments
Many Eastern Suburbs properties still have ageing sewer systems that experience recurring tree-root blockages. That’s why proper diagnosis matters. Guesswork usually costs people more money.
Our approach has always been to identify the real cause of the issue and explain the options clearly so customers can make informed decisions.
Training the Next Generation
One thing we’re particularly proud of is apprenticeship training.
Over the years, David has trained more than 14 apprentices through the business, helping young plumbers develop real-world maintenance and diagnostic skills that often take years to learn properly.
One of those apprentices is one of David’s own sons.
That matters.
Because you tend to teach differently when your own family name is attached to the quality of the work.
The plumbing industry needs experienced tradespeople willing to pass on practical knowledge, uphold proper standards, and take pride in their workmanship. We’ve always believed that investing time in training is part of building a strong business and a stronger industry.
Vaporooter and Industry Expertise
In 2004, The Lone Drainer and Pronto also became closely associated with Vaporooter sewer root control treatments in Australia.
Since then, David has worked extensively with the product and helped educate both customers and other plumbing professionals about managing invasive tree roots in sewer systems.
That experience has given us a strong understanding of long-term drain maintenance strategies — particularly in older established suburbs where mature trees and ageing pipework often collide.
Local People. Local Knowledge.
We’ve lived and worked in the Eastern Suburbs for decades.
That local connection matters because plumbing problems rarely look the same from one suburb to another. Older homes in the suburbs, from Paddington and Woollahra to Coogee and Randwick, often present very different challenges to newer developments elsewhere in Sydney.
We understand the local infrastructure, common building styles, ageing pipe materials, and recurring issues that arise year after year.
More importantly, we understand that when people call a plumber, they usually want three things:
