Homeowners

The inconvenience of a blocked drain usually happens at weekends when you are all at home and doing loads of washing, a party, the Grand Final day BBQ or a family gathering like Christmas or Easter.

If you have a repeat blocked drain or sewer caused by tree roots you will know exactly what I am talking about.

It can be quite inconvenient not being able to flush your loo, take a shower or do the washing.

Not to mention the embarrassment as raw sewage runs down your garden path, driveway or worse, seeing the neighbours leap across that “stream” as their dog is drinks from it meanders over the front footpath.

Well, you do not have to put up with this blocked drain mess and inconvenience anymore!

Vaporooter is the answer.

Most homeowners with regular blocked drains will have a Water Board sewer diagram at hand.

This diagram will show where the sewer pipes run around your house, and how they join to the Boards sewer main, and where any points of access to the pipe (cleaning eyes or inspection openings) should be located.

Most people with repeat blocked drains know where these access points are located and if you are one of those people, this knowledge is invaluable for plumbers like us.

Property Managers, Agents and Landlords

The Lone Drainer and Pronto guarantees, that if your drains, treated with Vaporooter, have a blockage caused by tree roots within 12 months, The Lone Drainer and Pronto will clear the blockage for FREE!*

Every portfolio has a handful of properties that have repeat blocked drains caused by tree roots. You know the ones I mean, the property that drives you mad, usually on Friday of the long weekend and you need to get an emergency plumber to come to the rescue.

If you are lucky with long term tenants who have experienced regular sewer blockages, they recognise the symptoms early and notify your office so you can manage the problem efficiently and get your plumber to attend.

Another scenario is the new or inexperienced tenant.

Generally, they will ignore the symptoms and leave it till Friday afternoon or Saturday morning to address the problem, or notify your office.

If that happens, you need to get your plumber to attend outside regular hours. Sometimes, you cannot get your regular plumber and after hours usually means more expense.

If you have a valued client who is looking for an alternate way to manage that property with a blocked drain then

Vaporooter is the answer.

Why choose The Lone Drainer and Pronto to apply Vaporooter to your sewer pipes?

The Lone Drainer and Pronto are the Eastern Suburbs and Inner West preferred applicators of ‘Vaporooter’ sewer tree root control.

Since 2004, David Conroy has been applying Vaporooter and, as an accredited trainer, has been training other Vaporooter applicators. He has personally trained the best of Australia’s ‘Vaporooter’ applicators, which cover an area from Townsville in the north, west to Adelaide and many places in between.

Dave is always looking for better ways to apply Vaporooter and constantly strives to educate and inform his large client base that there is an alternative to putting up with another blocked sewer caused by tree roots.

What has to happen before we apply Vaporooter?

What happens when the sewer blocks up again?

Well, the first thing to do is clear the blockage and get the sewer running.

The “Rattlesnake” high pressure water (up to 5000 psi) propels the drain cleaning head through the pipes to the blockage and then through the blockage.

After the dirty water escapes, we attach the appropriate head for tree roots and send it down to the blockage and work the affected section until it is clean and clear and tree root free.

We then carry out a CCTV survey of the sewer to determine the condition of the pipeline.

If it’s only a blockage caused by tree roots then it is Easy!

Don’t ever dig up the garden or path or pool surround or marble tiles to replace the sewer pipes.

Vaporooter is the answer.

We simply cut out the tree roots, and re-survey the pipeline to check they are all removed.

We survey and clean all of the sewer line to ensure the current blockage is not the only blockage. Sometimes the tree roots grow through other pipe joints up or downstream of the current blockage.

We just make sure the pipeline is suitable for a Vaporooter application.

Vaporooter will not repair a broken sewer pipe. This will need to be excavated and repaired before we can apply Vaporooter. Yes, it does happen!

So why do you have to wait 6 weeks after cutting the roots to apply Vaporooter?

Great question!

The tree roots are like underground branches. When we prune the branches, they “bleed” sap as a reaction to the pruning. When the roots are bleeding they will not absorb the Vaporooter.

Forty years of testing in sewers, both in a controlled environment and of course “in the field”, has proven time and time again, to wait six weeks until the roots relax, re-shoot and begin to grow into the sewer flow, is the ONLY way to apply Vaporooter.

What Types of tree affect your sewer!

What types of trees in your area or street are growing in the sewer? Some of the worst offenders, growing into your sewer pipes and causing you repeat blockages, are mentioned below:

The Hills Weeping Fig (Ficus Microcarpa var), the London Plane tree (Platanus x hispanica), Paperbark (Melaleuca), Jacaranda (Jacaranda Mimosifolia), Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomum Camphora), Brush Box (Lophostemon confertus), Golden Robinia (Robinia pseudocacia Frisia) are all well known offenders.

Here in the dry continent, the nutrients and moisture the trees draw from the sewer are a must have for those trees, and their root systems.

Remember Vaporooter only kills tree roots in sewers.

It does not kill the Trees!

Vaporooter simply explained in 3 minutes

How tree roots grow in your sewer ?

“The intrusion of roots in to sewers is probably the most destructive single element that faces those maintaining a wastewater collection system,” says the U.S. EPA Environmental Protection Technology Series.

There are tens of thousands of kilometres of sewer pipes throughout Sydney.

The potential for root intrusion to inhibit flows, produce blockages and damage valuable pipe is enormous.

Tree roots normally do not grow underwater and seldom cause problems where ground water covers the pipe. But in most areas, this is not the case.

Roots Grow Once Cell at a Time

When a seed germinates, it adds one cell at a time toward the best environment from which it might extract nutrients and moisture. The growing point of a tree moves best through loosely cultivated soil. The most common practice to lay sewer pipes is by open trench. The backfilled soil offers a good growing medium for tree roots.

Because the flow in sanitary lines has a higher temperature than the soil, condensation appears on the crown of the pipe. As the warm moisture from the sewer pipe evaporates up through the soil, the vapours offer an excellent trail for the root to follow. If even a vapour leak exists in the pipe, the root concentrates its efforts at that point. Since some pipe joint compounds are of nutrient material themselves, the root may entirely girdle the joint before entering the pipe.

Tree roots accumulate debris

Once inside the sewer pipe, the root takes on the appearance of a “veil” or “horse tail” type of structure. If flows in the pipes are fairly constant, the root mass hangs down like a veil to the normal flow level where they accumulate deposits of grease, slime and other debris.

Conventional methods of removing roots by cutting or tearing tend to increase regrowth similar to pruning a tree. Removing roots inside the pipe solves the immediate problem of stoppages, but does nothing to retard the growth or destroy the roots outside the pipe.

This removal, regrowth and removal cycle of cutting and tearing roots can destroy the structural integrity of the pipe.

Herbicide Fumigants

Herbicide fumigants present the most effective method to destroy tree roots and inhibit their regrowth without affecting the above ground plant life.

Vaporooter is a root control herbicide that enters the sewer as foam. Only tree roots within the pipe and a short distance outside the pipe are affected. Trees and shrubs immediately above ground are not harmed.

The U.S. EPA has stated, “No other method of control approaches the effectiveness found in…Vaporooter.”
